Shaykh Idris Watts
Shaykh Idris Watts accepted Islam in 1998 whilst studying Arabic Studies at Leeds University where he graduated in 2002 with a First Class honours, having received an award of excellence for his language skills. He then moved to the ancient city of Fez, Morocco, where he spent the next seven years studying at one of the world’s oldest universities, the University of Qarawiyin. Here he immersed himself in the study of various Islamic science disciplines, in parallel to teaching the English language.
In 2007, he returned back to England in-hope to benefit his local community of Yorkshire with the knowledge and experiences he had accumulated in North Africa; for the past 6 years, he has been teaching Arabic and Islamic Studies. He has since organised a plethora of classes and gatherings within Bradford and its neighbouring cities, in addition to working for mosques and institutes, supporting reverts and delivering a number of classes, workshops and speeches. He is also the author of the book The Heavenly Guide to the Beacon of Pure Light and a frequent guest on ‘Ask the Alim’ on British Muslim TV.
Shaykh Idris’ passion lies in teaching Quranic Arabic, as well as focusing on the linguistic miracle of the Qur’an and advocating the life-changing impact on both an intra-personal and inter-personal level that it can have.
